I had such an amazing time this past weekend in downtown Alexandria for Amanda & Doug’s engagement session! We had Amanda & Doug’s session scheduled for months, but we had to reschedule twice due to sickness & bad weather. Of course the third date we rescheduled it to, was the day the weather decided to act up once again. Luckily, we had the following day available which turned out to be a beautiful day in January! I guess it’s true when they say third time’s a charm 😉 I was determined to get Amanda & Doug’s engagement session under wraps, as we had been bouncing back & forth with dates since just before the holidays.
I dressed appropriately that day, & not just because I dressed comfortably. I was wearing a long sleeve red shirt, & my red winter coat. Come to find out, Amanda & Doug both attended North Carolina State University. Do you get where I’m going with this? RED. I wish I could say that I had planned it that way, but what can I say? I just love the color red 🙂 Amanda & Doug met each other at college, but they actually did not meet on campus. Turns out they lived in the same apartment complex as one another, AND they lived right across from each other. These are the stories that I love hearing, bc you know it must have been fate. Now after being together 6 years, Amanda & Doug have decided to tie the knot this upcoming May at the beautiful Old House Vineyards in Culpeper, VA.
Downtown Alexandria is one of my absolute favorite places for engagement sessions. The town is so romantic & quaint, while offering so much variety for beautiful portraits. I just have to say that I had so much fun with Amanda & Doug! I adore this sweet couple so much, & we had an awesome time getting to know each other while walking around downtown. We began our session at the Carlyle House, which was practically deserted while we were there (perfect!). Amanda was relieved when I informed her at the beginning of the session not to worry, bc I would be guiding them every step of the way when it came to posing. Immediately after I made mention of that, Amanda replied with “Oh good, because we were a little nervous bc we’ve never had professional pictures taken before!” I say all of this to express how AMAZING they were together, & how natural they were in front of the camera. You would never have guessed that they were “newbies!” Amanda & Doug’s natural chemistry blew me away, & there were even some instances where they were inspiring me with new ideas 😉 Once we finished up at the Carlyle House, we then made our way downtown to the famous “cobblestone” street where we managed to dodge pedestrians, other photographers, & oncoming traffic lol A little tricky at times, but definitely so worth it! For our last destination we made our way to the waterfront, which is where some of my favorite images from the session took place. I’m probably partial to the waterfront bc let’s face it, I love boats & I love being out on the water. Needless to say, we had the most gorgeous light to wrap up on of my favorite engagement sessions to date!
Amanda & Doug, thank you so much for your patience when it came to getting your engagement session done. I think it’s safe to say that it was definitely worth the wait 😉 It was such a pleasure working with you, & I am so excited to capture your special day! Here are just a few of my favorites from your engagement session. Enjoy!
