As much as I am all about Spring making it’s arrival, I can’t help but get excited when I hear we are going to get a good amount of snow. If I lived up north I’m sure this feeling wouldn’t exist, but seeing that we hardly see significant snowfall it makes me giddy. Another reason why I love the snow? Because my daughter, April, LOVES the snow. I like to think it’s partly because she has that Minnesota blood in her (thanks to my husband).
You can imagine my disappointment when I woke up this morning just to find a dusting of snow on the ground. According to the weather report, the snowfall was supposed to start in the wee hours of the morning. Of course I made the mistake of telling April the night before that we were going to get snow- why did I do that again? Parent fail. But it was only a matter of time as I was sitting with April in her playroom sipping my hot tea, my eyes danced over to the window to see the snow falling down. It was a winter wonderland & some of the prettiest snowfall I had ever seen. I find it ironic that our first significant snowfall of winter decided to make it’s appearance on the first day of Spring. What’s going on Mother Nature?
If the snow wasn’t enough of a surprise, my cell went off with a text message from my husband, Jamie. I was worried about him driving since he has to commute to Annandale for work, which is at least 1.5 hours one way. Jamie said he was turning his car around to come home because the roads were so bad. Even though Northern Virginia got mostly rain today, it was not worth risking the commute with how our roads were here. So as a result, April & I not only got a snow day but a family day! Daddy was home & it made our snow day complete.
Remember earlier when I mentioned that we hardly ever get significant snowfall? Let’s just say that because of this we aren’t completely prepared with the proper winter attire. April sported her “Ralphie” snowsuit from last season, which is definitely too small. My poor child had to wear high waters for a snowsuit, tennis shoes instead of boots, and gloves which were too large. At least it will make for comical pictures to look back on in the years to come. Regardless, it didn’t seem to phase her one bit. April loved making snowballs, & then watching Jamie throw snowballs at me. Hey, whatever provides good entertainment for a almost 3 year old. We made a slide out of a snow pile but April wasn’t having it, lol. I don’t think she’s quite ready to REALLY play in the snow just yet. After all, my daughter was the one who went to a waterpark last summer & spent the entire time trying not to get wet, LoL!
It was pretty cold out today, & the snow was coming down hard. I was so happy to get some snowfall pictures this year. It was a little tricky seeing that I wrapped my camera up with a crock pot liner to keep it dry (hey, it worked) & my hands were frozen after about 10 minutes. Needless to say we didn’t stay outside for too long. Then all of a sudden a snow plow came to clear our cul-de-sac, & it scared April. As a result, we headed inside & decided to have another play date out in the snow tomorrow.
So her “Ralphie” snowsuit is actually 18 month size. April is almost 3. Again, parent fail.
Keeping Daddy company as he shovels…or just getting in the way 🙂
Once we made our way inside, instead of warming up with hot cocoa we warmed up with one of April’s favorites- Pepperoni Pizza. This child could eat pepperoni pizza everyday. And now I want pizza.
