This past weekend I met with Laurel & Tom to capture their engagement session at the State Arboretum of Virginia, also known as Blandy Experimental Farm. I first crossed paths with this sweet couple a few weeks ago at Magnolia’s Bridal Experience where I was set up as a vendor at the Historic Long Branch Plantation. With multiple prizes being awarded to the attendees at the show, Laurel & Tom won a free engagement session with me! I was so excited to have the opportunity to work with them.
Originally we set a date to have their engagement session take place at Long Branch, however mother nature had other plans forcing us to reschedule. This small mishap just happened to work to our advantage, because we had the most gorgeous weather for their new session date. Unfortunately Long Branch was no longer available for us to use their grounds, but when Laurel mentioned the kind of setting she was desiring for her images I knew just the place.
I have taken many session at the State Arboretum of Virginia, & although I get tired of it at times it never disappoints. The State Arboretum of Virginia also has the best open field location which is exactly the kind of setting Laurel desired. I’m not sure what it is but I always love an open field for engagement photos. With the best lighting conditions there’s just something so simple & romantic about this setting. Although Laurel & Tom had 2 outfits for their session, I knew the field setting would be the “money shots”, so that is where we spent most of their time. We decided to wait & move to the open field towards the end of their session since we knew the lighting would be the best at that time- and I’m so glad we did! I am so in love with these images. Laurel & Tom mentioned they had never had professional photos taken before, but they did so with such ease. It was an absolute joy to work with them!
Congratulations, Laurel & Tom!
