There are some wedding days that feel less like work and more like being welcomed into a group of people who have known and loved each other for years. Kara and Andrew’s summer wedding at Old House Vineyards in Culpeper, Virginia was exactly that kind of day.

From the beautiful summer weather and breathtaking vineyard views to the incredible people surrounding them, every part of their wedding day felt joyful, genuine, and completely them. As an Old House Vineyards wedding photographer, I couldn’t have asked for a more fun couple or a more beautiful setting to document their love story.

And while the images are what they’ll have to look back on for years to come, what made this wedding so special was how it felt to be there. I never felt like I was simply showing up to photograph their wedding. I felt like I was included in it—and that is one of the greatest gifts a couple can give their photographer.

From High School Sweethearts to a Beautiful Old House Vineyards Wedding

Kara and Andrew’s love story is one of those that makes you smile.

These two have been together since high school, and their story actually began while riding the bus together. What started as a teenage connection grew into years of memories, laughter, adventures, and a relationship that eventually brought them to their wedding day at Old House Vineyards.

After spending the day with them, it was easy to see that their connection hasn’t faded one bit. If anything, their chemistry was even more obvious in the little moments—the way they looked at each other, the way they teased one another, and the playful energy they naturally brought into every interaction. They have that rare kind of relationship where you can tell they genuinely like being together.

Their wedding day wasn’t simply about celebrating how long they’ve been together. It was about celebrating the life they’ve built and the next chapter they’re beginning together as husband and wife.

A Beautiful Summer Day for an Old House Vineyards Wedding

Old House Vineyards was the perfect setting for Kara and Andrew’s summer wedding in Virginia.

The weather was absolutely beautiful, creating the kind of summer day you hope for when planning an outdoor vineyard wedding. The views were incredible, the grounds were beautiful, and everywhere we turned seemed to offer another gorgeous backdrop for photographs.

But as beautiful as the venue was, the people were what truly made this wedding special.

Kara and Andrew were surrounded by friends and family who were genuinely excited to celebrate them. There was so much laughter, love, and excitement throughout the day, and it was obvious just how loved these two are.

As a Culpeper wedding photographer, I love getting to photograph weddings in settings like Old House Vineyards because the location provides such a beautiful variety of backdrops. But ultimately, it’s the people and the relationships that make the photographs meaningful.

Andrew’s Reaction to Kara Walking Down the Aisle

One of my favorite moments of the entire day was watching Andrew as Kara walked down the aisle.

He was trying so hard to keep it together.

You could see every emotion written across his face as he watched his bride make her way toward him. It was one of those moments where you don’t need words to understand exactly what someone is feeling.

And then there was Kara, walking toward the man she’s loved since high school, surrounded by the people who mean the most to them. It was incredibly sweet—and such an honor to photograph.

These are the moments I love most about being a wedding photographer. The moments that aren’t posed or planned. The moments where emotion takes over and you simply get to document it as it happens.

Sunset Portraits with an Old House Vineyards Wedding Photographer

And then came sunset.

I’ve photographed plenty of sunset portraits, but Kara and Andrew’s sunset experience was something I won’t soon forget. The light settled over the vineyard in the most beautiful way, creating an incredible glow across the landscape. The views seemed to stretch forever, and the entire atmosphere became quiet and romantic.

We took our time with their portraits and let them simply enjoy being together while the sky transformed around them. I was even able to put the drone up, capturing some of the most timeless, romantic sunset portraits to date.

The combination of the vineyard views, gorgeous summer evening light, and Kara and Andrew’s undeniable chemistry made for some of my favorite portraits from their wedding day. And because these two are so playful and comfortable together, their portraits never felt stiff or overly posed. They laughed, flirted, joked around, and simply enjoyed each other. That’s always my goal during portraits—to create beautiful photographs while allowing my couples to actually have fun and enjoy the experience.

As a wedding photographer, I absolutely love when a groom is excited about portraits—and especially when he requests romantic nighttime photos. Nearing the end of their reception, we stepped outside for some beautiful night portraits, and they were the perfect way to end their portrait experience.

The darker atmosphere created something completely different from their daytime and sunset portraits. These images felt more intimate, romantic, and dramatic, and they gave Kara and Andrew a chance to sneak away together for a few quiet moments during their celebration. Capturing these portraits on the bridge created such magic, as the light reflected off the water. I could not get enough of these night time shots!

I’m always a fan of giving couples a little variety in their wedding gallery, and these nighttime portraits were such a fun addition.

Andrew, I fully support more grooms requesting romantic night portraits… or any additional portraits for that matter 😉

More Than Just Their Old House Vineyards Wedding Photographer

One of the biggest compliments I can receive is when a couple makes me feel like I’m part of their wedding day rather than someone simply showing up to photograph it.

And that’s exactly how Kara and Andrew’s wedding felt.

From the moment I arrived, I felt welcomed. Their families were wonderful, their friends were so much fun, and Kara and Andrew were incredibly sweet and genuine. There was never a feeling of being on the outside looking in. Instead, I felt like I was included in their special day—laughing with them, celebrating with them, and experiencing the joy right alongside them while still doing what I love most: documenting it all.

From Andrew trying his hardest not to cry as Kara walked down the aisle to their playful sunset portraits and romantic nighttime photos, every part of their day felt uniquely theirs.

After being together since high school—starting with something as simple as riding the bus together—it was incredibly special to watch these two begin this next chapter as husband and wife.
