As a Northern Virginia wedding photographer, I’ve come to discover what my wedding day favorites are. I figured I would take a little break from the educational posts, & share what I love capturing. I believe it’s so important for us wedding photographers to share what we are passionate about. I also wanted to give you insight as to what my eye is drawn to on a typical wedding day. For me, it’s more than just those pretty portraits! Keep reading to see my top 3 wedding day favorites.
You work so hard in the planning stages of your wedding to make it perfect. You choose your dress, jewelry, colors, decor, flowers…the list goes on. The sad thing is that years down the road, most people won’t remember those fine details that you worked so hard on. The good news? Wedding details are one of my favorite things to capture on a wedding day! This way you can look back on those images and remember all of the details that helped make your day unique.
Another reason why I love capturing wedding details, is because it will be the very first thing I begin capturing! This also allows me to get warmed up when it comes to my creative side. I will capture anything from your dress, the shoes, jewelry, invitations, bouquets, and basically anything that you will give me! I also love to take the time to capture the ceremony & reception spaces. My goal is to capture the reception space untouched before the guests enter. This way I can be sure to capture a good room shot, and the table settings before they get messed up by the guests 😉
The Recessional
I absolutely love capturing the recessional. Not only the recessional, but the time that comes right after the recessional. This is where I am able to capture some of the most fun and beautiful candid shots. From the excitement that comes with the bride and groom making their grand entrance down the aisle, to the excited guests, to the time after where the happy couple is greeted with hugs and kisses from family members and friends. During this time I can sit back & let the moments unfold. My only responsibility is to be the paparazzi, & because of this I have been able to capture some of the most beautiful moments.
Portraits
I’m sure most of you reading will know that this is a no brainer! I am always so excited for portrait time, especially if it is timed right around golden hour. During this time, I will try to take my couple to a more remote location to ensure that we have some privacy. This always makes the couple feel more comfortable, while also allowing me to work more efficiently. Portrait time will normally last about 30 minutes, unless of course the timeline allows for a little extra. I always try to make portrait time a relaxed and fun environment, and I like to think that my couples have fun 🙂 Your portraits are what matters most when it comes to your wedding photography, so I will always do my best to provide my couple with enough variety.
