It’s not everyday I write a personal post on my photography blog, but this actually has a little to do with both my personal life & my business. Before you start thinking anything, I first want to say that I am in no way using the word of God to shine light on myself or to help market my business. To do so would be a slap in the face, & a low move on my part- so I am writing this to you today out of complete sincerity.
Not to get too deep on you guys, but over the last few months I’ve felt a tug & conviction on my heart bc I felt I haven’t been putting God first in my life when it came to my prayer life. Between being a fairly new Mom, focusing on my fitness goals, & chasing these crazy dreams I have of mine with my photography business I lost focus on the things that should be most important to me. One of those things was finding my purpose & how I could use my gifts & talents to serve others, while in return serving the one who blessed me with these gifts.
Since I’ve been resting my back injury lately instead of working out while baby naps, I decided I would spend some time in prayer & open up my devotional. I often laugh to myself & wonder if this back injury was God’s way of telling me to slow down, lol. So today while sprawled out on the floor with a pack of frozen corn placed on my back, a throw pillow underneath of me, & my devotional in hand I opened up the book to see today’s topic was on Creativity- using our gifts. It was 1 Peter 4:10 that spoke to me. It was that “ah-ha” moment where God was telling me how to use my business as a ministry-how to make my business mean more than what is is now.
“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in it’s various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen. -1 Peter 4:10-11
So what does this mean? Since I’ve opened my business there have been times that I have offered free sessions. However they were usually contests that I would hold, where most times the winner was selected randomly. Yes, that’s great…but there’s no meaning in that. I want to take this even deeper. Starting today, I want to offer a free session to someone in need. This could be a couple, family, or individual who is facing a trial or rough patch in their life. Someone who is seriously ill. Someone who has never had professional photographs taken before & desires to feel beautiful. Someone in a financial crisis. I want to give back by offering them something positive that they can hold onto for the rest of their lives.
If you know of someone who is in need & you would like to make a recommendation, please contact me through my website. Please do not post any recommendations on my photography page simply bc I want to be respectful of people’s privacy. There will not be a deadline for the entries, as I will hang onto and read each one. Again, I don’t want this to be geared towards those just looking for a free session. I want this to be for those who are facing a difficult time, & need a little something positive to hold onto. Again, this is not a contest as I plan to offer these frequently. It just all depends on how many recommendations I receive. With that said, I am excited to hopefully use my gifts to make someone’s situation a little bit brighter! 😉
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Thank you so much for taking the time to read about my personal experience & the new vision that I have!
“Greater is He who is in me, than He who is living in the world.” 1 John 4:4
