As a Northern Virginia Wedding Photographer, I feel it is my job to offer you more than just pretty images. With photography being an investment, I want to make sure you get the most of your images. Usually this will include things such as your venue or your timeline, but brides- have you ever thought about your makeup? Professional makeup is extremely important for your wedding day! Today on the blog, I will discuss the top three reasons to have professional makeup done for your special day.
The Coverage Lasts All Day
When it’s your wedding day, you want to make sure you look your best. Am I right, ladies? After all, you did invest so much into your photography you want to make sure you photograph at your best. Not to mention, it is going to make you feel that much more confident & beautiful in front of the camera! When you have your professional makeup done, the makeup artist has certain products that they use to ensure your makeup lasts through the entire day. I like to think of it as “facial hairspray”, lol. This is especially important for days that may be humid, or rainy. It is also important because throughout the day, you WILL be touching your face! It could be because you’re crying from reading a sentimental letter from your groom (have those tissues handy!). It could come from being in close contact with guests, & of course with being in close contact with your groom. As a Northern Virginia Wedding Photographer, portrait time usually results in a lot of face, nose, & forehead touching 😉 With professional makeup applied you won’t have to feel self conscious about the longevity of your makeup!
Get Pampered
This second key point is pretty simple. It’s your wedding day. RELAX! All brides deserve to be pampered on their special day. Makeup is just one less thing you need to worry about bringing with you. You deserve to sit back & be pampered. This past Spring I actually captured a wedding for my very own hair & makeup artist, Tiffany with TDR Artistry, & you can bet she did not apply her own makeup. Instead, she wanted to relax and enjoy her day. As a result, Tiffany hired a makeup artist who she’s also worked with numerous times. This is just one more way of lifting off the stress when it comes to your special day. Enjoy it!
Makeup That Is Made For Photography
Last but not least, this third point is probably the most important. When you hire a professional makeup artist, they will only use product that is made for photography. I’m sure some of you are wondering, what does this mean? Not only do they apply product that will last, but they also use makeup that is made to resist the flash of a camera. Again you’re probably asking, what does that mean? For example, if the bride is wearing a certain brand of highlighter it can react to the camera’s flash in a negative way. I saw this happen a couple of years ago to one of my brides, and her entire bridal party. Highlighter was applied around the eye region, & when flash was used they had white halos around their eyes. It was incredibly difficult to remove in photoshop. Try doing a google search of celebrities on the red carpet that this has happened to. It is definitely a real thing! I do believe this is rare, but certainly possible. When you hire a professional makeup artist, you shouldn’t have the risk of this happening. Be smart, think about your photography investment, & hire a professional makeup artist 😉
