What an adventure it was with Julie & Mike for their sunrise engagement session at the Lincoln Memorial! Julie & Mike had their hearts set on Washington DC for their engagement session. Since Mike proposed to Julie at the World War II Memorial, this location had sentimental meaning to them. It was only appropriate that we planned for their engagement session in the heart of Washington DC. We decided to brave the early morning hours for the best light, & to avoid the crowds. Little did we know what we would be faced with.
I decided to meet Julie & Mike at the Lincoln Memorial. Unfortunately it was overcast skies, but little did we know that we would be met with rain the ENTIRE duration of their Washington DC engagement session. As Julie & Mike made their way to the Lincoln Memorial, Julie had a jacket held over her to keep her out of the rain. I felt so terrible for this sweet couple as we had such high hopes for the weather. As soon as we greeted one another, Julie & Mike were all smiles despite the rain. I was amazed at how positive they remained during our time together. I was also so thankful that we started at the Lincoln Memorial, as it allowed us to proceed with portrait time even while it was raining.
About 30 minutes into their engagement session, the rain decided to let up. We ventured out near the reflecting pool, & just as we started it began to pour rain again. With an umbrella in one hand & a camera in the other it made for an interesting experience, lol. Julie & Mike were getting soaked as they walked parallel to the reflecting pool (if you look closely, you can see the rain hitting the water behind them), but they couldn’t help but laugh their way through it. We quickly made our way back to the Lincoln where we proceeded with portrait time. The best part? The skies began to clear just in time to make our way down to the World War II memorial to wrap up their engagement session. This was a special location for Julie & Mike as this is where Mike proposed. I was so glad that this opportunity presented itself, as we were able to capture some of the cutest portraits there. I also knew how much it meant to Julie & Mike to make this location happen. Despite the weather conditions, I had the best time with these two. Julie & Mike truly made the best out of a not so ideal situation- & we were still able to capture some gorgeous images!
Congratulations, Julie & Mike!
