As a Northern Virginia engagement & wedding photographer, I’m so used to working in hot & humid temperatures. I was surprised when we had such gorgeous weather for Katie & Mark’s engagement session in downtown Alexandria. It had been awhile since I visited this adorable little town, but I was so excited to be back doing what I love. Downtown Alexandria is such a picturesque location, & it’s the perfect place for romantic portraits.

For Mark & Katie’s engagement session, we started at the Carlyle house. The courtyard behind the main house is a hidden gem that makes for an excellent portrait location. The best part? It’s never crowded! I could have stayed in this one location for a majority of our time together, but there were other key spots downtown that we did not want to miss out on.

How can we forget about the famous cobblestone street? In my opinion it is one of the most romantic places for engagement or wedding photos. Towards the end of our session we made our way to the waterfront as the sun was starting to set. Katie & Mark were so much fun to work with. Their relaxed and playful demeanor made working with them so easy. I also have to credit the fact that Katie walked all over downtown Alexandria in dress shoes, while Mark wore a full on suit in the middle of June…these two were rockstars! Katie & Mark had such undeniable chemistry & I can’t wait to witness them tie the knot at Bristow Manor come November!
