I had the great pleasure by starting my month of June with Megan & Justen at The Barns at Madison County. You could not have asked for a prettier day & I wish every wedding had weather as gorgeous as what we encountered this past weekend! I had almost forgotten just how beautiful this little hidden gem of a venue is. Tucked away in the mountains of Etlan, Virginia The Barns at Madison County is a romantic, rustic wedding venue that brings all of the charm-and amazing views! It made the perfect backdrop for such a perfect day.
Megan & Justen’s story holds very dear to my heart because it is very similar to my husband & mine’s. Megan is a PTA, & Justen was one of her patients thanks to an unexpected motorcycle accident. I’m not sure how many visits it took, but eventually Justen did ask Megan out on a date, complete with a boot cast. I do find this story ironic, because my husband is also a PTA & we met through my grandparents since my grandfather was his patient. It is amazing how God brings people together!
It was just 3 weeks prior that I captured Megan & Justen’s engagement session at Mortgage Hall with their precious fur babies, Penny & Boone. It made their wedding day feel like we were reuniting with old friends, & even Penny & Boone made an appearance in their bow ties! Megan was radiant while wearing an Ava Laurenne gown completed with hair & makeup by one of the best, Tiffany with TDR Artistry. The bridesmaids wore navy blue bridesmaid dresses while holding white bouquets. We can’t leave out the guys as they looked incredibly handsome in their suspenders!
Megan & Justen shared a first look just outside the main house on the property. Since we still had full sun this time of day, we needed to keep them tucked away in the shade for lighting purposes. As much as I was itching to capture those mountain views, I knew it would have to wait until golden hour. With that being said I absolutely loved this location as we started Megan & Justen’s portrait time. The tree that that was near the walkway framed them perfectly, & we had the most gorgeous diffused light. When Justen turned around to see Megan for their first look, he looked at us & said “We are going to have to change this dress!” as he simply could not take his eyes off of his beautiful bride.
Megan & Justen exchanged vows with the mountains as their backdrop- I just love this ceremony view! It was an intimate ceremony witnessed among their closest family & friends. Afterwards guests made their way to cocktail hour where they enjoyed drinks, conversation, lawn games, & music provided by Jared with Blue Cut Media. Dinner was then served by Blue Ridge Pizza & their fire roasted pizza was amazing! I think this is the first time I have ever seen a pizza truck & I loved this idea of incorporating pizza at your wedding- you can’t go wrong! Megan & Justen also had a beautiful dessert display, & the cake pops were out of this world.
As golden hour approached I kept looking for the perfect spot to capture Megan & Justen’s golden hour photos. Every angle I wanted of the mountains, the sun was setting in the wrong direction. After walking the property for a bit, I stumbled upon the perfect spot only to find it was someone else’s property. I connected with Allison, the owner of the venue, & she informed me of the perfect place to go which was just a very short drive down the gravel road (and property we could actually use!). I have to say these were some of my favorite portraits of the day. Golden hour was beautiful, Megan & Justen were stunning, & those blue ridge mountains were simply showing off against the summer sun. It was the perfect way to wrap up their wedding portraits for the day, & the location looked like something out of a countryside fairytale. All I can say is that I am so glad I applied bug spray beforehand, lol
Megan & Justen’s wedding reception was filled with dancing, toasts, & the amazing company of their family & friends. As if their day at The Barns at Madison County wasn’t beautiful enough, they concluded with a magical sparkler exit to end their night. Well, the end of the wedding reception anyway. This crowd had an after party to get to, & I can only imagine the night they had planned ahead of them.
Congratulations, Mr. & Mrs. Moreland! It was an absolute pleasure to be a part of your day!
